New Kid in Town

While tooling around town Tuesday, I almost gave myself whiplash when I saw a sign on the overhang that read “Comic Shop” at the strip mall on North Valley Parkway and West Main.  Couldn’t it be a left over relic from Bulldog!  Could it?  So I had to check it out.

Lo and behold, we have a new comics and games store here in Lewisville, only an storefront or two across from the last one that disappeared last year.  Black 7 Comics is a nice storefront.  It’s clean, well lit and well stocked, especially when it comes to comics.  Terry Black, the owner manager, really knows his stuff.  We chatted a bit about gaming and game support – I’m not really into comics that much these days, aside from a select few titles.  As far as RPG selection goes, I wouldn’t call it robust.  They carry the obligatory DnD 4e and Pathfinder lines, as well as a few other odds and ends.  Lots of boardgames, CCGs, TCGs, and deck building games though.  Apparently Yugi-oh is having a renaissance.  Who knew?!

Perhaps most importantly, his dice counter was VERY well stocked.

With so much gaming going on at the Lewisville Public Library, it’s great to have a store so conveniently located.  It’s really hard to tell the parent of a teen who has just gotten his or her first taste of table top roleplaying that they have to drive all the way to Plano, Denton, or Grapevine to visit a real game store (don’t get me wrong, I like Boomerang as much as the next guy, but their RPG selection is pretty sparse).

So here’s wishing Terry the best of luck.  Do your part to keep his shop running: drop in and by a set of dice, a booster of magic cards, or the latest issue of Spiderman.  I’m hoping we can do some cross promotional stuff with him in the future.

UPDATE: Looks like Black 7 Comics has posted an online coupon.  If you’re planning a visit, take a moment to bring this along. (Thanks to James Pickering for the tip!)

  1. My parents have already shopped there. They like the place better than bulldog to start with. I like any place that thinks Noir Comics are a valid genre. *nodnod* I will start visiting this store when I visit Dallas again.
